Why paid fees differ from advertised rates
Advertised rates are a schedule. Paid fees are what hit each fill. They diverge when the fill is maker or taker, when your account is not on the Regular book, when a discount or promo applies, and when the venue rounds. A FeeEdge audit compares your CSV with the rates you enter. It does not guarantee an overcharge.
Maker vs taker
Binance's published Regular USD-M book in FeeEdge is 0.020% maker / 0.050% taker. A market order pays the taker side. A resting limit that adds liquidity pays the maker side. A limit that crosses the spread becomes a taker. Two fills on the same pair can therefore print 0.02% and 0.05% in the same hour. See maker vs taker fees.
Fictitious worked example
Labeled sample, not a customer file. One 10,000 USDT BTCUSDT fill.
- Advertised Regular taker 0.050%: expected commission = 5.00 USDT.
- If the fill was maker at 0.020%: expected = 2.00 USDT.
- If BNB fee payment applies at Binance's published 10% futures discount: taker expected = 4.50 USDT equivalent, billed in BNB.
- CSV shows 4.99 USDT: that can be rounding, a short promo, or a different entered rate. It is not, by itself, a refund case.
Tier and eligibility
Volume VIP on Binance is not volume-only. FeeEdge keeps volume-only accounts on Regular User. VIP rungs also list a BNB balance requirement. If your CSV was billed at a VIP rate and you enter Regular rates, every fill will look cheap. Enter the rates from your account's fee page for the same dates.
Discounts and promos
- Quoted pay-in-token discounts (BNB on Binance) only apply when you opted in and held enough token. Official BNB cut is 25% on spot and margin, 10% on futures. The calculator applies that split when you toggle BNB. The audit uses the rates you type, not an assumed toggle.
- Referral or campaign cuts are time-boxed. They will not match a public Regular table.
- Zero-commission fills can be a promo, a rebate, or a row the parser could not price. The report says when data is insufficient.
Rounding and comparison limits
Venues round commission to a tick. Small notionals show larger relative gaps. FeeEdge does not abs() a negative commission: a rebate stays a credit. Mixed fee currencies are totaled separately. The audit does not read API keys, does not see your VIP screen, and does not claim every Binance export. Unsupported files are rejected instead of guessed. See export coverage.
